The CeraPlus skin barrier designed with Remois technology* works to soothe the skin and keep it moist and addresses the irritation that some patients experience while using an ostomy system.

The barrier incorporates ceramides, a naturally occurring substance in the skin, to lock in moisture and, in turn, helps with decreasing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Patients living with damaged or eroded skin around their ostomy system are more prone to developing TEWL.

Features and Benefits

  • Tape border stays in place
  • Soothing formula assists with maintaining peristomal skin health and lessens potential irritation.
  • Compatible with a range of New Image pouches, including drainable, high-output, closed and urostomy systems.
  • Cut-to-fit option allows the patient to customize the barrier to their stoma
  • Convex shape prevents fluid from irritating adjacent skin and accommodates a range of stomas, including areas with folds.
  • Latex-free construction reduces the potential for an allergic reaction.

To Use

  1. Assemble all supplies, including the pouch, disposal bag, cleaning cloth or tissue, and water, before removing your existing barrier. For cut-to-fit barriers, also include the measuring guide, pen and scissors.
  2. To detach the existing barrier, lift up one edge and peel it downward while angling your motion away from the skin.
  3. Clean the skin with water and gentle soap before drying the area.
  4. Measure your stoma to trace the barrier size opening onto the skin barrier. The barrier’s edge should align right with your stoma; otherwise, you risk irritation.
  5. After you’ve found the right size, cut an opening with the scissors into the barrier. Never cut beyond the line on the release liner.
  6. After removing the release liner, position the barrier over the stoma in a diamond configuration.
  7. Once it’s in the right spot, remove the backing paper from both sides, and then press the barrier into the skin. Apply light pressure for roughly a minute to secure the barrier.
  8. Once the barrier is secure, connect its flange with the pouch’s flange, and press them together. You should hear a clicking sound.
  9. Then, secure the bottom of the pouch or use a pouch clamp.
