Proximel Sacral Silicone Foam Dressing
Designed for treating moderately to heavily exuding wounds, Proximel bordered silicone foam dressings utilize an innovative five-layer design that improves patient comfort, reduces complications and tissue damage during removal, and creates an ideal healing environment. It acts as a waterproof barrier and seals out bacteria, helping to prevent saturation and infection. A Proximel silicone foam dressing also disperses fluid evenly to keep the wound environment moist and support recovery. Re-position the bordered dressing as needed without loosening its hold or causing fluid leakage.
The 5-Layer System
Proximel bordered silicone foam dressings absorb exudate and evenly distribute pressure at the wound site through a five-layer system:
- Silicone Wound Contact Layer and Border: unique silicone oil and perforation technology come in direct contact with the wound, allowing for straightforward application; won’t stick to the wound, thus providing nearly painless, atraumatic removal. Once applied, it allows the exudate to quickly migrate to the layers above for fast absorption.
- Absorbent Polyurethane Foam: cushioning protection that provides additional comfort while offering great fluid handling capabilities.
- Non-Woven Layer: works to spread the exudate over a wide area, helping improve the dressing’s performance.
- Superabsorbent Core: fibers that draw in and hold onto exudate while reducing maceration risks
- Protective Backing: smooth and comfortable material that is waterproof and a barrier to bacteria while promoting high moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR).

How to Use Proximel Sacral Silicone Foam Dressing
- Clean and dry the wound area per protocol prior to application.
- The dressing should overlap the dry surrounding skin by at least 1-2cm. Choose a dressing size accordingly.
- Remove the release films and apply the adherent side to the wound and skin. Do not stretch.
- Gently secure the dressing to the skin and smooth edges.
- The frequency of dressing changes depends on the patient’s condition and exudate level. Wear time is typically up to 7 days.
Warnings and Precautions
- Do not use Proximel Silicone foam dressings with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.
- Discontinue use if reddening or sensitization occurs.
- Do not leave one singular piece of dressing on a wound for more than 7 days. Do not use dressing for more than 30 days continuously.
