Capture stoma output during your next change! Get a better overall ostomy experience with StomaGenie® because it allows you to change your pouch without messy drainage damaging your clothes or peristomal skin. StomaGenie® works with both one-piece and two-piece ostomy systems.
StomaGenie® Capture Cartridge provides a better way to change your ostomy pouch and baseplate. Instead of leaving your stoma exposed, placing the capture cartridge over your stoma once the used barrier is removed allows you to contain output so you have time to care for and dry your peristomal skin. No more unsanitary leakage that can irritate peristomal skin or ruin clothes!

Sizing Info
Choosing the correct size StomaGenie® cartridge is important. Refer to the sizing guide below for the inner and our diameter of each cartridge. The inner diameter of the cartridge should measure slightly larger than the diameter of your stoma.
The outer diameter of the cartridge should be wide enough to allow for sliding a pre-cut baseplate down the cartridge to the skin

What types of ostomies can use it?
It is beneficial for anyone looking for a more hygienic pouch change, but it offers specific advantages depending on the ostomy type:
- Ileostomy & Urostomy: Highly advantageous for managing the continuous, caustic, or unexpected liquid output common with ileostomies and urostomies.
- Colostomy: Helpful for individuals who cannot control their output timing or experience digestive issues like diarrhea.
What sizes does it come in?
The StomaGenie® is available in 12 different sizes to accommodate varying stoma diameters. The mid-to-large size cartridges are engineered to hold roughly 2 to 4 ounces of fluid output.
What if I have an irregularly shaped stoma?
For ostomates with oval or unique-shaped stomas, the manufacturer provides a Custom Adapter Service. Users submit a photograph of their pre-cut baseplate next to a physical ruler. This file is converted digitally to manufacture 3D-printed, reusable custom adapters that snap onto the disposable cartridges to fit perfectly.
Can it be used with both 1-piece and 2-piece ostomy systems?
Yes, it works effectively with both.
- For a 2-piece system, it provides an added benefit: you can keep the tube over the stoma and slide your pre-cut baseplate/flange directly down the outside of the cartridge onto the skin, ensuring perfect alignment before removing the tube.
Does it require an extra hand to use?
While you do need to hold the cartridge in place over the stoma, preparing your medical supplies in advance (removing film backings, setting out wipes, opening accessory caps) frees up your other hand to easily clean and prepare your skin.
Is StomaGenie® covered by insurance or Medicare?
Yes. StomaGenie® Capture Cartridges are covered by most private insurance plans, the VA, and are Medicare reimbursable under HCPCS Code A5081. Insurance guidelines typically cover up to 30 or 31 cartridges per month. A physician’s prescription specifying the correct diagnosis code (Z93.2 for Ileostomy, Z93.3 for Colostomy, or Z93.6 for Urostomy) is required.
How do I dispose of the cartridge?
Once your new pouching system is secured, you simply seal the used cartridge using the provided black plug and toss it straight into your standard waste container.
Is the product eco-friendly?
Yes, the cartridge is biodegradable for eco-friendly disposal, though it is not designed for backyard composting systems.
2-Piece Pouch Change Instructions
Phase 1: Prep
Gather Supplies: New 2-piece system, StomaGenie® cartridge + plug, measuring guide, and warm water.
Pre-Cut the Barrier: Measure your stoma, cut the new skin barrier (wafer) to size, and peel off the backing so it is sticky and ready.
Phase 2: Remove & Cover
Remove Old System: Peel off the old barrier gently.
Deploy StomaGenie®: Immediately place the open end of the cartridge directly over the stoma to catch any active output.
Phase 3: Clean & Dry
Wash Skin: Hold the cartridge with one hand and clean the surrounding skin with warm water.
Dry Completely: Pat the skin entirely dry (the cartridge will catch any drips while you do this).
Phase 4: Install New System
Slide Barrier On: Slide the sticky skin barrier down over the body of the cartridge until it presses flat against your skin. Smooth it down to seal.
Attach Pouch: Pull the cartridge away from the stoma, then immediately snap/click the new pouch onto the barrier flange.
Phase 5: Cleanup
Seal & Toss: Insert the plastic plug into the used cartridge to lock in odor/waste, throw it in the trash, and wash your hands.
1-Piece Pouch Change Instructions

Deploy StomaGenie®: Immediately place the open end of the cartridge directly over the stoma to catch any active output.
Phase 3: Clean & Dry
Wash Skin: Hold the cartridge with one hand and clean the surrounding skin with warm water.
Dry Completely: Pat the skin entirely dry (the cartridge will catch any drips while you do this).

Remove cartridge: When your stoma is not active, remove the StomaGenie®.
Attach Pouch: Immediately press the sticky skin barrier firmly against your skin and smooth down from the center outward to ensure a secure, wrinkle-free seal.

Seal & Toss: Insert the plastic plug into the used cartridge to lock in odor/waste, throw it in the trash, and wash your hands.
